Surveys.

Annual Salary Survey: This survey, sponsored annually, covers base and incentive pay for multiple levels of customer-facing personnel in field sales, service, and marketing. Data also is reported on pay practices and mix of base and incentive compensation. Pearl Meyer & Partners is the survey contractor.

In addition to reporting accurate and comprehensive compensation information such as base salary, incentive eligibility and pay, and bonus compensation for each position, the survey contains a wealth of valuable information such as the mix of base and incentive pay, compensation practices and salary administration.

In response to requests that additional positions outside of sales and service be added to the survey, ALDA (then ALSSA) and Pearl Meyer & Partners in 2010 combined Pearl Meyer & Partners' professional and managerial total compensation survey and the customer-focused sales and service positions into one survey. As was the case with the sales personnel survey, ALDA members' aggregated information is reported in a separate cut of the data.

In another significant improvement, the survey was expanded to cover global markets in 2012. Data was reported on a country-by-country basis.

As a sponsor, ALDA subsidizes its members participation in the annual survey, however; companies must participate in the survey in order to receive the final results.

NOTE: These reports are available only to participants through the contractor.

Regarding the surveys, the contractor for the annual salary survey, Pearl Meyer & Partners, distributes copies of the survey results to participants. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of the survey results should contact Ken Cardinal at:

2012 Marketing & Sales Benchmark Survey: ALDA recently conducted a Marketing & Sales Benchmark Survey. It was designed to help ALDA members benchmark and improve their operations performance by better understanding the industry-specific expenditures for marketing and sales expenditures and programs.

Among the areas covered were 2011 spending and 2012 projected budgets for advertising, direct mail, tradeshows, seminars, web activities, marketing research, brand management, customer events and social media. Information also was requested on the number of full time employees, revenue, and operations expense budget by geographical regions, and the number of employees and operations expense budget for about 10 categories of sales operations.

K.C. Associates, a highly reputable research firm, was selected as the survey contractor, and procedures were instituted to protect participants’ confidential and proprietary business information. No individual company information was reported or disclosed.
